Music is more than just sound; Music has a blend of stories, emotions, and experiences that develop into amazing/awe-inspiring work. Each track I produce carries a piece of my journey, reflecting the moments that have shaped me into an artist. In this blog post, I will take you behind the scenes of my music, sharing the inspirations, challenges, and triumphs that have influenced my work.

The Early Days: Finding My Sound

Every artist has a beginning, and mine was no different. Growing up in a small town, I was surrounded by a rich tapestry with local influences and influences beyond where I was raised. From alternative/rap/r&b of the 90's to the early 2000's and then emerging sounds of the middle years of the 2010's, my ears were always open to new melodies.

Discovering My Passion

The first time I had picked up a pen to write a poem was the first time I felt artistically alive. The freedom to write down experiences within my life along with the creativity in the phrasing of my background was amazing. Although a passion I was private about at the time, the process of music developed into a central part of my life today.

The Influence of Local Artists

When I was younger, the scene in New Mexico within music wasn't large, more so just beginning. The artists revolving around where I was from or that I had listened to when I was younger included Drake, Lil Wayne, Meek Mill, Chief Keef, Wu Tang Clan, Wiz Khalifa, and A$AP Rocky. Within the alternative scene included bands or artists such as The White Stripes, The Strokes, My Chemical Romance, and Blink-182.

The Creative Process: From Idea to Track

Creating music is a journey that involves inspiration, experimentation, and at times, frustration. Here’s a glimpse into my creative process.

Inspiration Strikes

Inspiration can come from —relatability, entertainment, talks with friends, or even a fleeting moment in nature. I often bring a notebook or my phone to jot down ideas, lyrics, or melodies that come to me unexpectedly. I'm often inspired by principles, experience, resiliency, individualism, and unique stances on life and the ability to stay strong in communication of how those ideas were implemented/accomplished.

Experimentation in the Studio

When I started producing, it was important for me to understand how to expand what I'd been given. The intricacies of building on the initial idea and adding your own uniqueness/flavor onto a song was a process that I loved. Same with writing, whether I had a song to work or a blank canvass, the method of building into what I know and experienced was freeing and gave me much satisfaction.

Collaborating with Other Artists

Collaboration is a vital part of the process. Working with other musicians brings fresh perspectives and ideas. Having had to work alone in the past, development within collaboration is a huge way to touch base with an artist and benefit in regards to how each artist can relate, influence, and build on a shared experiences.

The Challenges: Overcoming Obstacles

The path of an artist is rarely smooth. There have been numerous challenges along the way, each including valuable lessons.

The Triumphs: Celebrating Success

Despite the challenges, there have been many triumphs that have made the journey worthwhile.

The Future: Planning out Longevity

As I look to the future, I'm excited about the possibilities. Planning in the direction you want to lead/follow is hard, that's why allowing room in alternatives is important. If you know your plan but aren't stubborn, you're giving yourself more room and growth in the pursuit of achieving what you want and likewise with regards to important people/family/peers/movements in your life.

Exploring New Genres

I believe that growth as an artist comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone. I'm eager to explore new genres and experiment with rare styles. Whether it’s incorporating elements of alternative or nuanced r&b music, I'm open to evolving my sound.

Connecting with My Audience

Building a strong connection with support is essential, and likewise with the artists I support. I plan to engage more with listeners through social media and live Q&A sessions. The support is always amazing, and I want to reinstill that the supports feel a part of my journey.

Continuing to Tell Stories

At the heart of my music is experience, truth, and expression. The music will remain reflective of my journey, inviting listeners to connect to the emotions and narratives behind the music.

Final Thoughts: The Power of Music

Music is a powerful medium that transcends boundaries and connects us all. Behind every song is a perspective waiting to be told. As I continue my journey, I'm grateful about the experiences that have shaped me and the people who have supported me along the way.

I invite you on the journey, to listen to the stories behind my music, and to find your own selves within the melodies. Let’s celebrate the power of music together.
